Friday Concert Series:
Burns Night featuring Colleen Raney and Matthew Hayward-MacDonald - Friday, January 27
Colleen Raney breathes new life into traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland, and England and interprets contemporary songs as if they were passed down for generations. With her stunning voice and ace band, drawn from the best of the Northwest folk and Irish musicians, she's quickly become a bold new voice in Celtic music.
Matthew Hayward-MacDonald hails from central Pennsylvania where his love of Celtic folk music began. His father was a student of bluegrass banjo and guitar. Upon receiving an Appalachian dulcimer, Matthew began to learn the rudiments of song writing and joy of folk music. Music continued to shape his life, but began to take shape with his formation of Eugene based band, Toad in the Hole. Gathering influence from the Pogues to Planxty, Toad in the Hole became a fixture of high energy Celtic folk in the Northwest. With his relocation to Portland, Matthew had the pleasure of playing in the group Circled by Hounds where his love of traditional music matured.
